How we calculate

There is no official standard, only rules of thumb from lighting shops. Lucide keeps to at most half the table's width: a 50 cm shade or smaller over a 100 cm table. The Lighting Centre goes for two thirds to three quarters of the width. We show shades of about half to three quarters: the small end feels calm, the large end fills the table. For a round table the diameter counts as the width.

Hang the lamp 60 to 80 cm above the tabletop, so you can see under it when seated. Over a long table, from about two metres, two or three smaller lamps work better, about one lamp's width apart.

We read the diameter from the lamp's name (Ø 45 cm) or its Diameter specification. About half of the pendants state it; the others are missing here. The cheapest come first.
