After an upholstery apprenticeship from 1941 to 1944, he trained as a furniture architect at the Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Copenhagen between 1945 and 1948. During those years he also spent time as a trainee with Kaare Klint at Kunstakademiets Arkitektskole.
