How we measure

1. The same products at the same shops. A product (one EAN code) counts when at least one shop had it in stock at both the start and the end of the month. We take the lowest price of exactly those shops, without shipping. A shop that joined or left during the month does not move the figure.
2. Only shops that sent us prices that month count, so we never work with an outdated price.
3. Outliers are left out: a price that more than halved or more than doubled is usually an error or another version.
4. The index is the geometric mean of the price changes; every product weighs the same. This is how statistics offices average unweighted prices (the Jevons index).
5. We publish a month only with at least 50 products at 2 or more shops. This month: 15,772 of the 55,923 products with a price at the end (28%); 19 outliers left out.
6. A running month is provisional and changes every day; a finished month is fixed.
